Church in Battlefield

In pasture, on a low drumlin; on the site of a graveyard (SL039-132002-). Grass-covered foundations of a rectangular structure (ext. 8.7m E-W; int. dims. c. 6.8m N-S) are evident beneath a pile of rubble and field-clearance stones. The wall on the S side (T 0.9m; H 0.5m) is the most clearly defined part. This may be the remains of a small church. A sandstone font (0.35m x 0.3m; H 0.28m) (SL033-115001-) was brought from Battlefield House, c. 750m to SW, to the RC Church in Ballymote in 1948 (pers. comm. M. A. Timoney). The original location of this font has not been determined though it is may have come from this site.
