What is recorded here

The Chimney in Cambrick Ville has decorative recesses round its base and eight sides rising above the old brewery. Most chimneys send smoke up. This one looks as though it insists the smoke be announced.
Octagonal-plan chimney, built c. 1865. Square-plan base, tooled limestone broached junction to shaft. Red brick walling laid in English garden wall bond, projecting moulded plinth, moulded recessed panels to base, painted brick shaft, cast-iron bracing to support upper section. Red brick boiler house attached to north.
This red brick chimney has survived in excellent condition and forms an important part of the complex of nineteenth-century brewery buildings. The chimney is of good quality construction and materials. The decorative niches to the base enhance an essentially utilitarian structure.
