Castlepark House

Farmyard complex, built c. 1770, comprising two-storey four-bay west and south ranges and five-bay north range, having corrugated-iron roofs, pitched to west and north ranges and half-hipped to south, with rubble sandstone walls and square-headed door and window openings with rubble sandstone voussoirs and corrugated-iron fittings. West and north ranges have elliptical-headed arches, partly blocked up to west range. North range has recent lean-to to south elevation. South range has timber battened doors and three-bay two-storey extension to east elevation, with half-hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystack, and painted rendered walls. Rubble sandstone masonry boundary walls to site.

This farmyard complex, which served the demesne of Castlepark House, survives notably intact, and constitutes a fine example of Georgian planned farm buildings. The ranges are arranged symmetrically around a courtyard to the rear of the main house and are all of similar form and size and reflect a high degree of conscious design. The ranges are solidly built with good quality materials and retain interesting features such as the integral carriage arches. The boundary walls enhance the setting of the farmyard. Situated close to the main house, the complex is a reminder of the importance of farming in demesne-related activities.
