Castlebank House

It is likely that Castlebank House, which is a late 19th century remodeling of an earlier 18th century farmhouse, stands on the site of this castle. A keystone from a mantle piece decorated with the O'Brian coat of arms and dated 1578 (CL063-010001-) is built into the gable of the two-storey store outside the main entrance gate to the yard (see attached report). The site of Castlebank House may have been occupied by an earlier castle associated with the O'Brian family, indicated by a keystone bearing their coat of arms. The house stands as a reminder of medieval landholding in the area, though specific builders or dates remain unclear.
