Carriganoura Castle (in Ruins)

On rock outcrop, c. 200m N of Funshion River. Fragmentary remains of tower consisting of N wall (L 6.2m) with return of W wall (L 6.61m) and E wall (L c. 1.3m); clad with ivy (Cotter 1994, 102). Slight external base batter on W wall; NW corner stands to c. 8m H, NE to c. 2m. Part of garderobe outlet survives near ground level at extreme N end of E wall. Sill and part of E jamb of blocked window light in N wall. Rebuilding evident at N end of W wall. Spiral stairs, steps now missing, begin at 1st-floor level in NW corner, outer wall of staircase collapsed. Castle of a branch of the Condons (Nicholls 1993, 187).
