Dunmahon Castle in County Cork, Ireland, survives only as a low wall enclosing an irregular area fifty metres long and twenty wide. That thin line marks the bawn where people once lived, worked and faced the dangers of the north Cork landscape. The castle itself has gone, but the boundary remains, shaping the ground into a room without a roof.

A low wall, following an irregular line, enclosing an area (c. 50m N-S; c. 20m E-W) has been identified by Cotter (ibid., 83) as the remains of the bawn wall of Dunmahon castle (CO027-044----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
