Rathtoe, Roscat holds a buried chamber where seven skulls and many bones waited two feet beneath the gravel bridge. They belonged to the forgotten dead of Aghmorough, perhaps victims of the bloody battle still whispered in local story. The chamber is not a monument but a trap memory, forcing us to ask who bled there and why the land kept their bones hidden under ordinary stone.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 OS field books mention: 'On the 5th March 1839 a pit was dug for gravel near the bridge and 7 skulls and a great number of human bones were found about 2 feet down'. Bridge referred to is Aghmorough known locally as Bloody Bridge after a legendary battle.
