Burial ground in Minanes

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Mortons has a children's burial ground in its NE quadrant, inside a circular enclosure. The ground rises slightly and irregularly, but no grave markers remain visible. Local tradition holds that children were laid to rest there, though no written record confirms the claim. The absence of markers does not erase the shape of the place; it only removes the names that might have been spoken over it.
In circular enclosure (CO133-083---). Local tradition of children's burial ground in NE quadrant. Slightly raised irregular area. No grave markers noted. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
