Barrow, pond barrow

What is recorded here

Visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP: AJO 21) taken in 1964, and situated on a S-facing slope. This is a circular, dished grass-covered area (diam. 13.8m N-S; 12.5m E-W; D flush at S to 1.4m at N) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth 8m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.05m) SE-SW (downslope), which is replaced by a berm (Wth 3.6-6m) elsewhere. There is no entrance but the perimeter at E is slightly truncated by the track of a NNW-SSE relict field bank. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 4 June 2015
A circular pond barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its construction reflects early funerary and ritual earthwork traditions in the region.
