Abbey in ruins

Dominican friary described by Westropp (1904-5, 428) as following; 'Founded by Roche in the fourteenth century for Dominicans. Donough O'Dorgan was its last prior, 1558. "Spitle in Kilfinan, on it are the walls of a church or chapel; Abby Ballynegaule hath the walls of an old abby," 1657 (D.S. (A), 59). Fabric - It was 71 feet 8 inches [21.8m] by 21 feet 8 inches [6.6m]; the wall, 3 feet thick [0.9m], and in fair preservation. The west door and two south ones had flat arches; the east window, a round-headed splay arch; the lights gone before 1840.
