Waterworld Bundoran knows what to do when Donegal rain appears halfway through a seaside holiday: send everybody indoors and let the water have proper slides. I came expecting a quick paddle and discovered a pirate ship, waves and enough noise to make my imaginary captain resign. This is a family swim centre on the seafront, where the weather can grumble outside while the fun carries on. The entrance is on Atlantic Way in Bundoran, beside the town's beach and seafront attractions. Waterworld describes a wave pool, a pirate ship area, a multi-lane slide, rapids and smaller features for young children. The local visitor guide also points to larger slides for confident riders. Choose what suits each swimmer's age, height and ability; a family ticket does not make every slide appropriate for every child. A parent can enjoy the viewing area as well, particularly after the major 2025 refurbishment improved the entrance, changing rooms and cafe space. The appeal is a shared wet-weather outing, but swimming rules matter more than my fanciful plan to appoint a pirate captain. Staff and lifeguards supervise pool areas; visitors still need to watch children closely and obey slide signs. The site sells timed sessions, so check the booking page before packing a bag. The quieter session offered on some 2026 dates reduces numbers and loud music, a useful choice for people who find a bustling pool difficult. Bring swimwear and suitable footwear, and allow time to change rather than rushing from the car to the first slide. The operator's booking page says the last public date of its 2026 season was 26 September. It is therefore closed for ordinary visits in late October, even though an older hours page still lists selected September weekends. Do not promise a child a swim just because Bundoran itself is open. Watch the official booking page for the next season and confirm the actual session before travelling. The beach beside Waterworld is a separate outdoor place with its own water and safety notices; an indoor lifeguard arrangement does not carry across to the sea. When the centre reopens, arrive for the session you booked and check age or height rules for each attraction. The seafront position makes it easy to pair the visit with a walk, food or a look at the Atlantic, but allow breathing room between activities. Waterworld is a lively place, so choose a quieter time if noise or crowds matter to your group. A spectator in the viewing area can still share the outing, though everybody should check the current admission arrangements before arriving. Finish with dry clothes and a proper look out at Bundoran's real waves. I would keep the pirate ship indoors: the Atlantic already has plenty of captains.
