Cast-iron water pump, c.1870, set on concrete base with banded shaft and fluted neck and spout. The fluted cap is surmounted by a decorative finial.
This attractive cast-iron water pump has a high level of artistic detailing such as the banding to the shaft and deep fluting on the upper section. Water pumps played an important role in the age of horse transport and are often found by the roadside on the outskirts of towns and villages.
