Cast-iron water pump, c.1870, set on concrete base with banded shaft and fluted neck. The cap is missing from the top of the pump. The spout has foliate detail where it joins the shaft.
This attractive cast-iron water pump has an unusually high level of artistic detailing especially to the spout. Water pumps played an important role in the age of horse transport and as with this example are often found on the roadside on the outskirts of towns villages.
