What is recorded here

Free-standing cast-iron vent pipe, erected c. 1900. Moulded collar to a plinth base, with a double moulding below a plain shaft and a roll moulded collar to an open wider head. Foundry name: Hammond Lane, Dublin, to base.
A fine piece of late-Victorian decorative cast-iron work. It is a utilitarian yet fine piece of street furniture, enhanced by the retention of the foundry name. It is a noteworthy element of the streetscape enhancing the industrial heritage of Portlaoise.
