Located on a rocky coastline, NW of the entrance to Ballysadare Bay. Naturally-occurring rock basin which Wood-Martin (1882, 355-6) recorded 'had formerly been held in estimation as holy'.

Tobernasool is associated with Saint Sool, a lesser-known early Irish saint, and was traditionally visited for its supposed healing properties, particularly for skin ailments. The site's holiness was noted by antiquarian William Wakeman Wood-Martin, who recorded local reverence for the well in the 19th century.
