Gateway, c.1850, comprising pair of open work wrought iron piers with gas lamp holders over having decorative wrought iron double gates, wrought iron flanking pedestrian gates and sections of curved wrought iron railings with spike finials having open work wrought iron outer piers.

This gateway is a fine and attractive composition that has been very well maintained over the years to present an early aspect, and which forms a picturesque feature on the streetscape. The decorative quality of the gates attests to the high quality of craftsmanship traditionally practised in the locality and is of considerable artistic merit. The gateway is an integral component of the National Stud grounds, the equestrian nature of which is an important component of the cultural life of the county.
