Stone Cross

Three metres of rough granite still stand at the eastern edge of a low ridge in County Kildare, their broad base tapering upward into stubby arms that catch the light. The cross may have begun life near Coughlanstown graveyard, but distance and time have pulled it into the open, where it marks the land rather than a burial place. Its arms are short, its edges uncertain, and its purpose remains unresolved, yet it holds the horizon the way a border holds a argument: without apology, and without explaining itself.
