Castle, unclassified in Coghlanstown West stood in level pasture beside a medieval church and graveyard, held by Sir Robert FitzEustace, who died in 1486. It appeared on maps in 1752 and 1783, then vanished without a visible trace. The land may still remember the weight of its walls, even though no stone remains for a hand to touch.

In level pasture just NE of a medieval church (KD029-005001-) and graveyard (KD029-005004-). Sir Robert FitzEustace (d.1486) possessed the manor of Ballycotelan (ie Coughlanstown) with three castles (Tickell 1960, 368). A castle is shown on Noble and Keenan's 1752 Map of County Kildare just NE of the church and graveyard, and is recorded in ruins on Taylor’s later (1783) Map of County Kildare. Sir Robert FitzEustace held the manor of Ballycotelan, including this castle, in the late 15th century. It is remembered as part of a group of three castles associated with the FitzEustace family, an influential Anglo-Norman lineage in medieval Ireland.
