What is recorded here
Two upright stones stand fifteen centimetres apart beside a house wall above the Sullane River, one leaning slightly while the other presses against the rear brickwork. Their closeness breaks the usual pattern for standing stones, suggesting they may be the last remains of a larger structure rather than a complete monument. The house has likely consumed the rest of the site, leaving only this narrow pair to mark what was once built there.
Set adjacent to the E wall of a house, in an area of rough pasture near the N bank of the Sullane River. Two upright stones, aligned ENE-WSW, stand 0.15m apart at the base and measure 0.85m in overall length. The ENE stone (0.45m x 0.2m; H 1.15m) leans slightly to the ENE. The upper portion of the WSW stone (0.25m x 0.12m; H 1.22m) abuts the rear wall of the house. The close setting of the two stones is not typical of this monument class and the possibility that they could be the last remains of some other monument type cannot be ruled out.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).

Likely dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, the pair of standing stones may have served a ritual or territorial function. Such aligned stones are sometimes associated with ceremonial pathways or markers in the landscape, though local folklore or specific use is not recorded.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
