Remove it from its birthplace and it becomes a fence post, not a monument. The stone in Gneeves still stands four feet eight inches tall beside the boundary, but the hand that first lifted it forgot the hole where it belonged. Size is easy to measure. Memory is the part the men took with them.

Bowman (1934, 63) recorded standing stone 'in D. McCarthy's; this was removed from its original site, and is now standing by the fence 4ft 8in by 2ft 1in by 1ft 7in'. Exact location not known.
