Carrigan placed a low pillar stone upright on a hillock south-east of the Orchard, marking the entrance to a cave. The stone still stands near Clooneen church in County Laois, guarding a doorway nobody has entered for centuries. It is not a monument to pride but a boundary marker, telling humans where the visible world ends and the hidden one begins.
