What is recorded here

In level pasture, on the valley floor to the N of the Roughty River. This standing stone (1.33m x 0.64m; H 1.5m) is subrectangular in plan and section and is orientated NE-SW. It leans slightly to the NW and its N corner has been damaged. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
Likely dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ceremonial or territorial significance. Its orientation and placement near the Roughty River could suggest alignment with landscape features or ritual practices.
