Two seven-foot pillar-stones stood in Adamstown until Colonel Heard ordered them destroyed. Whether they marked a boundary, a burial or a meeting place has been lost with their exact location. Their removal turned visible heritage into absence, leaving behind only the memory of height and the certainty that they once answered the sky.

O'Leary (1918,117) describes 'two pillar-stones' in the townland, 'in height 7 feet, (which) were destroyed by the order of Colonel Heard'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994).
