St. Patricks Well

Small circular spring well (int. diam. c. 1m) enclosed from N-E-S by a much-disturbed drystone wall. An overflow channel occurs at W. A small bullaun stone (CV037-017001-) is situated at the NW edge of the well. Patterns are still held annually here on March 17th (local information). Linked to St. Patrick, the well is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage, particularly for curing eye ailments and general blessings. The presence of a bullaun stone suggests ritual use, possibly for anointing or symbolic washing as part of devotional practices.
