Moyle Big is a castle erased by time, marked only on an 1839 map in County Carlow. No wall, ditch or stone remains for a person to touch or judge. What is left is a name floating above ordinary ground, waiting for imagination to give it shape.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Marked as 'Site of Castle' on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map. No visible trace.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
