Staplestown Bridge in County Carlow stands beside a medieval village that vanished without ruins, panels or memory. Thomas Dineley drew the settlement in 1680, preserving its shape just before it disappeared entirely. The village may have fallen to plague, clearance or forgotten change, but Dineley's sketch stopped its complete erasure. What is lost there is not unknown; it is drawn, witnessed and waiting beneath the grass.
Medieval village lay in vicinity of Steplestown Lodge and Staplestown Bridge. Illustrated by Dineley in 1680 (JRSAI 1862-3, 44-5).
