Settlement deserted

Settlement deserted, medieval

What is recorded here

Clooneen church still stands while the settlement beneath it has vanished into western fields. The Old Street survives only as little hillocks in a quarter-acre plot, and the Orchard marks an irregular acre beside them. People may have walked that street, tended that garden, and forgotten the names of both.
Unlocated settlement near Clooneen church that is described by Carrigan as 'in the western part of the second field south of Clooneen graveyard, is a plot one quarter of an acre in area, full of little hillocks and called 'the Old Street'. An irregular enclosure in the same field, an acre in extent , and known as the Orchard' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 139). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
