Five trenches bit into County Kildare in 2003, revealing shallow gulleys choked with silt and medieval pottery. The site sat beside the presumed Pale boundary, marking a forgotten settlement rather than a grand fortress. People likely lived there, tended gardens, and vanished before history noticed their absence.

In 2003, in advance of a development which was bordered along the N by the presumed line of the Pale boundary, five test-trenches were mechanically excavated (Excavation licence No. 03E0373).
