Selina Bunbury was born in 1802 at Kilsaran Rectory, the first of fifteen children and a twin to a brother who would later need her to keep his house. She turned that crowded Louth childhood into nearly a hundred books, traveling from Stockholm to Rome through revolution and writing with such vivid observation that reviewers admitted her only fault was a violent religious tinge. The rectory did not simply give her a name; it gave her the hunger to watch the world closely enough to make others see it.
