Detached three-bay two-storey house, extant 1897, on an L-shaped plan originally centred on single-bay single-storey projecting porch to ground floor; five-bay (west) or two-bay (east) two-storey side elevations. Occupied, 1911. Renovated, ----. Replacement hipped slate roof on an L-shaped plan with clay ridge tiles, paired cement rendered central chimney stacks having stepped capping supporting terracotta or yellow terracotta octagonal pots, and uPVC rainwater goods on eaves boards on rendered eaves. Creeper- or ivy-covered replacement cement rendered walls bellcast over rendered plinth with rusticated quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings with replacement reconstituted limestone sills, and rendered surrounds centred on "keystones" framing replacement two-over-two timber sash windows. Set in landscaped grounds.
A house representing an integral component of the nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of the outskirts of Westport with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the deliberate alignment maximising on scenic vistas overlooking landscaped grounds and Westport Bay; the symmetrical frontage originally centred on an expressed porch; and the uniform or near-uniform proportions of the openings on each floor. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with quantities of the original or replicated fabric, thus upholding much of the character or integrity of a house having historic connections with Alfred Betham Kelly (----), 'Solicitor' (NA 1911); and Hugh M. McGonigal (1868-1912), one-time solicitor for the High Court of Justice (Irish Jurist 1902, 339).
