Ritual site

Ritual site, holy tree/bush

What is recorded here

No bush or tree remains beside the medieval church in County Offaly, yet the lost ritual site still belongs to the land. It may have marked prayer, boundary or memory before human hands changed the place. Forgetting did not erase the function, because the absence itself records what was removed.
No surface remains visible of any holy bush or tree in the vicinity of the medieval church (OF024-022001-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
