What is recorded here

Castle, unclassified in Annaghmore (ballyboy By.) stands unlocated within County Offaly, possibly built in the 17th century by Sampson Theobald on the site of Annaghmore House. Its exact position has slipped from memory, leaving behind a ghost of a building rather than a ruin you can walk beside. That absence makes the castle more interesting: it resists being pinned down, photographed or owned by certainty.
Unlocated castle within the townland of Annaghmore which was possibly built in the 17th centuryby Sampson Theobald, this may have been built on the site of Annaghmore House (Loeber 1988 vol. 1, 8) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
