Structure

A scatter (L 2m min.; Wth 3.8m; D 0.3m) of light brushwood, occasional twigs and four possible stakes. The site varies in density and the elements are irregularly laid and up to five pieces deep. The stakes are set at 60-85°. Woodworking is evidenced by a number of chisel points, branch-trimming and tearing. The site lies in poorly humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum, Calluna and fibrous roots. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 2001. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
