What is recorded here

Nine metres of blackened stone and packed earth still mark the cooking pit beside the Rathaneague ringfort. Cattle have grazed the mound flat, yet the shape remains clear enough to imagine heat rising through grass and people gathering for food or ritual. The nearby pits suggest this was a busy kitchen rather than a one-time experiment.

At SE side of ringfort (CO054-007001-), c. 8m outside fosse. Grass-covered, oval mound of burnt material (L 9m; Wth 8m; H 0.75m); much eroded by cattle. Two other fulachta fiadh (CO054-136---; CO054-137---) to E and SE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
