Standing stone in Newstone: a narrow rectangular stone, 1.8m high, leans south on the steep summit of Druminshin Hill in County Meath, Ireland. Its broken top was repaired with pitch and field stones gathered around its base, yet it still tilts like a post worn by passing paws or human hands. The 1908 OS 6-inch map marked it as a Standing Stone, but the place may have become more scratch-post than monument, tested by weather, animals and the patience of people who kept it visible.

Marked only on the 1908 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a Standing Stone. It is situated at the summit of the steep-sided Druminshin Hill. This is a narrow stone with a rectangular cross-section (dims at base 0.43m E-W; 0.23m N-S; H 1.8m). The top had broken off and it was repaired with pitch, while field stones have been gathered around its base. The stone is now leaning to the S and it could be a modern scratching-post. Likely dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, the stone may have had ceremonial or territorial significance. Its placement on a prominent hilltop suggests a possible role in prehistoric navigation, ritual activity, or as a boundary marker.
