Triangular-profile granite milestone, c.1780, inscribed on two sides.

This milestone is a reminder of the great coaching era in Ireland when the post office operated a coach based system of postal distribution. The simple form and carving of the structure is similar to other such milestones which are found in Meath, dating to the same period. The west face reads: "CARRICK MACROSS 5 BALLYBAY 15 Monaghan 25" while the east face reads: "Dublin 33 Slane 11 Drumcondra 2". The top is inscribed: "CM".
