Triangular-profile granite milestone, c.1780, inscribed on two sides.

This milestone is a reminder of the great coaching era in Ireland when the post office operated a coach based system of postal distribution. The simple form and carving of the structure is similar to other such milestones which are found in Meath, dating to the same period. The north face reads "CARRICK MACROSS 6 BAllybay 16 Monaghan 24" while the benchmark-inscribed south face reads: "Dublin 32 Slane 10 Drumconor [sic] 1". The top is inscribed: "CM".
