Grave Yd. (Disused)

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yd. (Disused) is a graveyard in County Louth, Ireland, marked on the 1908 OS 6-inch map as a sub-rectangular enclosure roughly 50m E-W and 20m N-S, with the remains of a late medieval church at its NE corner. It stopped being used before that map was drawn, yet the boundary and church ruins still define a place where people once buried their dead and stood beside them in rain or sunlight. The name preserves what the land did: it received the dead, held them, and waited for the living to return.
Marked 'Grave Yd. (Disused)' on the 1908 OS 6-inch map and indicated as a sub-rectangular shaped enclosure (map dims. c. 50m E-W; 20m N-S). Remains of a late medieval church (LH014-023001-) at NE. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 30 May 2012
