What is recorded here

Indicated is a much-forgotten ringfort on a steep Longford slope, its low earth bank still circling a grassy chamber that mapmakers never troubled to mark. Cattle may have grazed the ancient entrance for centuries while people forgot whether the opening faced east or south. The fort keeps its shape beside an ordinary field drain, waiting for someone to remember that the land once drew a clear boundary around itself.

On a steep N-facing slope in pasture. Not indicated on the 1837 or 1883 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. A slightly raised circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by a much-denuded, low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3m; H 0.4m). An external field drain from W-N-SE probably incorporates a pre-existing fosse. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded that the original entrance may have been at either NE or SE.
