Hut site in Rinn

Hut site

What is recorded here

Situated on a SE-facing slope. Archaeological monitoring (03E1761) over a wide area W and N of Lough Errew identified numerous archaeological features that could be preserved in situ, but two possible prehistoric hut-sites were excavated (04E1141) completely. This subcircular feature (ext. dims 5.9m N-S; 4.5m E-W) was defined by a slot-trench filled with a dark brown clay and charcoal inclusions that was open to the E. There was no hearth but some flint and chert items are associated with it. Hut-site (LE036-045008-) is c. 30m to the SE.
