Fulacht fia in Kilmacshane (turbett)

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In low-lying marshy pastureland overlooking woodland to the N. On inspection in April 1992 this fulacht fia consisted of a low crescentic mound (12.3m E-W; 11m N-S; H <0.4m) with a slight water-logged hollow (6.2m N-S; 4.2m E-W) in the centre opening to the N. Some cracked burnt stone and black earth was visible on the mound, which was partly overgrown with rushes. There was a drain immediately to the N. On re-inspection in April 2008 the monument was not located. It may have been obscured by some of the dense growth of briars in the area. There are three other fulachta fia in the area - see GA101-076----, GA101-078---- and GA101-079----. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 26 November 2019
