What is recorded here

One of five linked fulachta fiadh in Garr, Offaly, the NNW-facing horseshoe still holds a water-logged cooking trough within fire-shattered stones. It sat on low marshy ground between pasture and bog, with a graveyard to the south and two more unrecorded sites nearby. People may have gathered there to heat water, cook together and mark the edge where useful land dissolved into bog.

Horseshoe shaped mound (c. 0.30m H, Dims 12m x 11m, trough 5m x 1.5m) composed of black soil, small fire-shattered stones and orientated NNW. According to Fas surveyors two other fulachta fiadh were located here one c. 6m to the W, the other 37m to the SW but were not recorded and are not located by the writer. On low-lying flat marshy land between good pasture land and bog with graveyard to S (OF004-002----). Grass covered horseshoe-shaped mound (7.5m N-S; 4m E-W; H 0.6m) of burnt material with water logged central depression (possible cooking trough) open to NNW (Wth 2.5m).
