Ballyburly Ho. stands on the southwest slope of Ballyburly hill beside the church and graveyard, marking a place where an old castle gave way to a grand late 17th-century house. John Wakely or his son Thomas may have built the striking eleven-bay residence with its high pediment, but fire consumed it in 1888 before James Franklin Fuller rebuilt it. The site has changed hands and shapes across centuries, yet it remains tied to the land, the church, and the memory of those who lived there.

Late 17th - 18th century house built on site of castle which was burnt in 1888 (Bence-Jones 1978, 36-8). Probable pre-plantation castle which was refortified in the 16th-century (Hickey 1974, 3-20) and later replaced by late 17th century house. A house of late 17th century or early 18th century aspect, probably built either by John Wakely who was MP for Kilbeggan in 1692 and died c. 1713, or by his son Thomas. 11 bay front, 5 bay centre with very high pediment; doorcase with entablature and pilasters; high-pitched roof on bracket cornice. Burnt 1888; afterwards rebuilt to the design of James Franklin Fuller (Bence-Jones 1978, 19).
