Fulacht fia in Ballynamona

This site was located on firm ground above wet black bog 40m from a stream. The spread of charcoal and sandstone which formed the fulacht fiadh was badly damaged by stripping machines. It had maximum dimensions of 4m by 6m, was c. 0.08m deep and appeared to have been overlain by a layer of white clay which was c. 0.04m deep. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
