What is recorded here

Knockaunavad held a twenty-five-metre earthen ring on a sunny limestone slope before ploughing erased it. The fort likely guarded local herds or gave a family a defensible home during turbulent centuries. Its disappearance removes a visible marker of ordinary human resilience, leaving only a vague memory in the pasture soil.

In pasture, on SE-facing slope, below brow of low limestone hillock. Monument, depicted as roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
