Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on the S-facing slope of a hillock, in very hilly, undulating terrain, in pasture. A circular area (diam. 38m N-S and E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.57m; ext. H 1.61m) with an entrance gap (Wth 2.6m) at E. A gap (Wth 1.5m) at SW, possibly broken through the bank, may be a modern feature. A slight dip outside the bank at SE (Wth 3.4m) is the only evidence for a fosse. The interior slopes gradually to the S. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
