What is recorded here
Located in undulating, hillocky terrain on ground sloping generally to the S. Only the E sector (dims. 28m NE-SW; 23m NW-SE) of a larger enclosure has survived, defined by a curving bank (Wth 1.6m; int. H 0.77m; ext. H 1.11m) the outer face of which has stone revetting. There is no evidence of an outer fosse. A field bank of earth with stone revetment crosses the site from NE to SW and there is no visible trace of the enclosure to the W of this field bank. Small stones probably represent grave markers at the S end of the enclosure. There is a small cairn of stones (dims. 3.4m N-S; 4.1m E-W) near the field boundary at the S end with a bullaun stone (TN023-043002) visible. A gap (Wth 2m) in the bank in the NNE sector is due to sheep erosion. According to Stout (1984, 86-8) 'bones have been turned up in construction work at the southern edge of the existing site'.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
