Fairy forts are not for us. They belong to the displaced ones, the excluded, the forgotten. We are the excluded ones. This is our fort. Ballygiltenan Lower is not a ruin, it is a room waiting for recognition. The chamber is round, the floor is level, the walls are memory. What we dismiss as small is only waiting to be seen. The fairy fort is not a legend, it is a mirror. When we stop believing the world is made of dead things, the chamber opens. What we call fantasy is the world remembering itself through us. In pasture, on N-facing slope. Monument, depicted as roughly circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. However, it is still perceptible as oval area (30m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by low broad rise (H c. 0.2m; Wth c. 11m) in field of tall grass.
