What is recorded here

Inchisland OR Moatalusha preserves a ghostly circular enclosure, perhaps a forgotten ringfort, hidden beneath ordinary farmland in County Carlow. Its narrow fosse and nearby rectangular fields suggest a small, defended home where people lived, worked and left the land marked long before modern memory. The enclosure no longer stands in stone, but it still shapes the place, waiting beneath the soil for someone to imagine its lost life.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 29, 30) show approximately circular area surrounded by cropmark of narrow fosse (est max. diam. c. 25m). Possibly a ringfort. Cropmarks of rectangular fields in vicinity, possibly connected with moated site (CW008-052001-).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
