Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Commock

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Commock holds a forgotten ringfort on a low pasture rise. The earth swallowed its stones, yet a bending field bank still traces the circle drawn by surveyors decades ago. What looks like ordinary ground may be the rib of a lost fortress, waiting for rain or memory to reveal its shape.
On a low rise in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. The monument is not visible at ground level. However, a curve in the field bank from SSW-SW-WSW may mirror its outline. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
